PRESS RELEASE
(12 September 2002)
AST Announces Visi-dye –
Application-Specific Converter Plates

Applied Scintillation Technologies (AST) announces Visi-dye – a new, patented range of application specific converter plates for use with standard transilluminators. The phosphor screen assembly converts UV light to white, blue, green or red light providing a quick and easy way to detect the presence of general, or specifically labelled, proteins and DNA in electrophoresis gels or blots.

Application Areas
The Visi-dye plates can be used to enhance research techniques in a number of applications including:

      •  Multi or single label analysis of proteins, DNA and glycoproteins
      •  Gel electrophoresis, western and southern blotting, chromatograms
      •  Proteomics, genomics and drug discovery

Visi-dye works by providing a specific narrow band emission that ensures low background interference and high specificity detection for multi-label samples. In addition, the Visi-dye plates enable:

      •  High sensitivity detection of colourimetric and fluorescence probes including Cyanine, Alexa and GFP dyes
      •  Even and well distributed light fields that eliminate thermal damage to the gel
      •  Greater visualisation of less abundant proteins that may not be detectable with conventional converter plates.
      •  Fluorescent and colourmetric dyes to be used for labelling intracellular molecules to provide information on the biological activities occurring within tissues and cells.

The Visi-dye plates are available in different sizes from 20cm x 30cm to 20cm x 40cm and can be purchased separately or as part of a Multi Application set. The plates can also be customised for specific applications.

Comprehensive product information and technical specifications can be found on the AST web site: http://www.appscintech.com/products

AST is continually developing technologies to be able to meet the ongoing advances in scientific imaging research. More converter plates are under development and we would be pleased to discuss any application specific requirements you may have. Alternatively, you can email your requirements to sales@appscintech.com.
