October 2008
A number of local and national organisations and charities have benefited from donations from Applied Scintillation Technologies (AST) of Harlow in Essex. AST manufactures imaging and detection products using the latest phosphor and scintillation technologies for a wide range of markets worldwide.
AST Sales and Commercial Director, Stuart Quinn, said: “We relocated to our Harlow headquarters nearly ten years ago and many of our employees are from the surrounding area, so we are keen to support the local community in a variety of ways. We have made donations to the Baby Unit at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, and the St Clare Hospice, Hastingwood, Essex, We have also supported the Dunmow branch of Essex Young Farmers and we are sponsoring Risden Wood football club in their bid to win the FA Sunday Cup!”
“Of course, we can only donate to a relatively small number of the countless local and national worthy causes”, he continued. “Our chosen national charity is ‘Children with Leukemia’, the UK's leading charity dedicated exclusively to fighting Britain's biggest childhood cancer and we also support Breast Cancer Awareness through Cancer Research UK and Macmillan cancer support. We contribute to the annual Christmas Shoe Box appeal for children worldwide”.
One initiative already under way is a major overhaul of AST’s website (www.appscintech.com). “A major part of our business is conducted overseas”, explained Quinn. “Our website is an extremely important marketing tool for us and our new site will be more flexible to provide a much more dynamic way to support our export activities”.
