Phosphor and scintillation technology specialist, Applied Scintillation Technologies (AST), is benefiting from further investment in its materials development expertise. Professor Richard Jackman from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, University College, London has been appointed on an advisory basis.
Dr. Glenn Tyrrell, Director of AST’s parent company, TQ Scientific, and CEO of AST, said: “Despite the current economic downturn facing the UK and other countries, TQ Scientific is determined to make the necessary investment to guarantee further growth for AST and build on the achievements of recent years. We have already recently invested to enhance our production processes for thallium-doped caesium iodide scintillator coatings for dental X-ray imaging and to double our production capabilities for these products. We have also made significant developments with our neutron screen products”.
“I have known Professor Jackman for many years”, he continued. “He is a highly respected scientist in electronic materials, especially diamond nanotechnology, with an excellent network of contacts worldwide. His rigorous scientific approach, coupled with his extensive experience will help us identify new commercial opportunities”.
Professor Jackman holds UCL's chair in Electronic Devices and is also Department Head of The Diamond Electronics Group at the London Centre for Nanotechnology, which brings together strong capabilities in engineering, physical sciences and biomedicine from University College London and Imperial College London in a new UK-based multidisciplinary research centre, purpose-built to enable work at the forefront of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
“These are exciting times at AST”, concluded Tyrrell. “Innovation in material development is key to our continued success and we are committed to develop new ideas and take them through to market”.
