AST has a range of alpha and beta particle scintillators for use
in hand-held and fixed scanners that are used to detect radiation
in the environment, on personnel and on equipment.
Alpha-Rad for Alpha Detection
A zinc sulphide based scintillator is coated directly on to perspex
light guides for use in hand-held probes, fixed in personnel or
equipment scanners that are sited at points of entry to, or exit
from, high risk areas. A version is also available on thin
mylar sheet where intimate contact between the sample and detector
is required such as in radio nucleotide studies.
Beta-Rad for Beta Detection
In order to detect the weak beta signals produced by modern drug,
protein and metabolic assays, particle size and deposition must
be carefully controlled to ensure maximum surface area of scintillator
is available to optimise sensitivity. To this end AST use
specially prepared materials, from anthracene - the benchmark material
for beta detection - to size selected yttrium silicate and calcium
fluoride powders.
Alpha and Beta Detection
Dual Alpha/Beta-Rad provides both alpha and beta particle detection.
A high efficiency zinc sulphide based coating is deposited directly
on to a plastic scintillator panel. The zinc sulphide detects the
alpha particles while the plastic scintillator detects the beta
particles, as well as acting as a light guide feeding the photomultiplier
tube that is found in both hand-held and fixed detectors.
Applications:
Health and Safety at work
Environment monitoring
Decommissioning
Benefits:
Rapid and efficient scintillators
with excellent signal-to-noise ratio, which are ideal for high sensitivity,
radiation protection applications.
A range of different formats are
available to provide the optimum solution whatever the situation
